single review: the peggies “Stand By Me”

Do you like anime? Do you like girl bands? If so, the peggies is right up your alley. As of recently, the pop-rock trio have dabbled into anime territory, with many familiar with songs in works such as BORUTO NEXT GENERATIONS and Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai. Their most recent effort, that I know of, is an ending track for a fairly recent and slightly popular anime known as Sarazanmai. With this ending, the peggies look to stand by you, but will the single stand to be good or bad overall?

Stand By Me” is perhaps one of the greatest anime songs I’ve ever come across… and I listen to a lot of anime songs. Perhaps what makes this song so good is how it’s entirely structured to be both a fitting ending theme and a somber standalone, with its heavy rock sound topped with vocalist Yuuko’s soft unique vocal. It has a deep grunge feel, built with a melancholy vibe for effect. What helps make this song so particularly catchy is the delivery of the chorus, with its easy-to-get-looped-in-the-head sound and the almighty “onegai” that only begs for you to sing along. It’s a song that seems to have all the elements of your generic anime song but better. I’m standing by this, 100%.

To offset the mellow vibe presented in the first song, “DIVE TO LOVE” opposes that with a fun little tune that has an uplifting rock sound that’s playful throughout. It sounds like a jam that you’d play on a nice spring/summer day. While it pales in comparison to the catchy and awesome sound in the first song, this song still has an enjoyable quality not found in a lot of pop-rock songs. It’s a song I might not play repetitively but it feels like a good time. I might not be diving into love with this one, but I think it’s still worth a swim.

A formidable single from the girl band, and one that has gotten me to jump on the peggies bandwagon. If their next stuff is like Kimi no Sei and Stand By Me, then I’m basically not hopping off anytime soon. I’ve gotten to really enjoy the catalog of music that they have, and I’ve officially included “Stand By Me” into my top anisongs. As I said before, I’m definitely standing by the peggies after this. Thank you, girls.
